DUE DATES

TAX YEAR 2020 – Due May 17, 2021

As required by the State of Ohio, the deadline to file and pay individual 2020 income taxes was extended from April 15 to May 17, 2021.

The extension did not apply to the first quarter 2021 estimated tax payment so it was still due April 15, 2021.

The extension did not apply to net profit tax returns so they remained due April 15, 2021.

The extension did not apply to employers remitting withholding taxes so they were still due April 15, 2021.

TAX YEAR 2019 – Due July 15, 2020

Due to the Covid-19 emergency, the passage of House Bill 197 and the Declaration of the State Tax Commissioner, the deadline to file and pay tax year 2019 income taxes was extended from April 15 to July 15, 2020.  Penalty and interest is to be waived during the extension.  The first and second quarter estimated payments for individuals and businesses were also extended to July 15, 2020.  The Declaration did not provide relief for the municipal net profit filers who file directly with each municipality.  However, CCA, as permitted by the Ohio Revised Code, also waived penalties and interest for these filers through July 15, 2020.

The Declaration stated, the “20-Day Rule” will also be waived during this emergency period plus 30 days. Since many employees were working from home rather than their principal place of work, employers were to continue to withhold taxes for the City in which the employee would normally work from, regardless of the location of their home.

The Declaration did not apply to employers remitting withholding taxes so they remained due April 15, 2020.
